Rijksmuseum Amsterdam
The Rijksmuseum has over 5,000 paintings and collection spans over 800 years of art history in a beautifully restored building. On 13 April 2013, after a ten-year renovation which cost € 375 million, the main building was reopened by Queen Beatrix.
There's a definite emphasis on the Dutch Golden Age - the 17th century period when Rembrandt, Vermeer and many other artists found fame, and occasionally fortune. The Rijksmuseum collection showcases art from 1200-2000.
Located in the heart of Amsterdam at the Museum Square, close to the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and the Concertgebouw.
